The second Life of the Munot

The Munotverein – merit of Johann Jakob Beck

It was thanks to Johann Jakob Beck (1786–1868) that the decaying Munot was restored from 1835 onwards and thus preserved for posterity. He also founded the Munot Association in 1839 and served as its first president (Munot father). To this day, the association takes care of the preservation of the Munot and promotes its diverse use.

A children’s festival is one of the annual highlights in Schaffhausen. All primary school children from the region are invited to spend a day playing games, attending workshops, taking part in the parade and watching a grand fireworks display. The quadrille, a chain of dances that originated in 17th and 18th century France, has been danced at the Munot Ball every year since 1886.

A diverse range of events take place on the Munot, including concerts, theatre plays, operas, film shows, parties, discos as well as private events such as birthday parties, weddings and drinks receptions.
